Probs w/ librarian

Hi,

I tried to add projects from remote workstation to the server, and it's running fine, but the LibrarianCardPublisher run on the server won't get updated (i.e. cannot see the changes made to the library). What's wrong?

Also, I'm curious if Librarian ever run diffs when checking-in project docs. I see that when checking-in docs that's been checked-out before, and NOT APPLYING ANY CHANGES, the version of the doc on the library is incremented.

TIA
PS: Better review the post censorship rules again. Even the word doc*ment is cencored?!

Sorry about the censorship rules. We'll look into that.

The reason you cannot see projects and files that you add through another workstation is that each workstation works off a locally cached index of the library and its respective files and folders. This is intentional behaviour because it makes the system work significantly faster for remote Internet users.

All you have to do to see an updated list of library projects is double click with the right mouse button on the library root. To see an up to date list of files in a given project just double click with the right mouse button on that project.

Librarian does not run diffs when checking-in files. All files are added as they are, version numbers updated even if there are no changes.

Hope this helps.

Hmm, without diffs, the repository size will fatten each time a user check-in the project file(s). Honestly, I do not understand the design desicion of not running diffs, at least to check wether the work files (in the workstation) is modified/updated and only store those which are modified in the library. This would conserve space on the server, even if the files sre stored as is (as opposed to storing only deltas).

Your point is well received. This functionality has already been developed and will be in the next release, though it will not revisit existing duplicate files that are already in the library.

Planned ship date is October 2003.

The next version of Librarian will be free. We have no plans or agenda to change the free status of the product now or at any time in the future. Ship date is slated for October 2003.
